A social enterprise recycling organic waste in partnership with the community of waste-pickers.
Best of Waste Limited (BoW) is a Ugandan company dedicated to recycling organic waste from urban areas to produce high-quality carbonized fuel briquettes. The company aims to provide an affordable and sustainable cooking solution for households in Uganda. BoW's primary products include safe, long-burning, and smoke-free briquettes, as well as energy-saving cook stoves. These products are designed to be more accessible and cost-effective, making them an ideal choice for low-income households.
BoW operates in the renewable energy and waste recycling market, focusing on creating a cleaner environment while improving economic standards. The company partners with women and youths in the community, equipping them with skills in low-cost waste recycling, marketing, and sales. This initiative not only helps in waste management but also provides new sources of income, lifting women and girls out of poverty and empowering them economically.
The business model of BoW revolves around the production and sale of eco-friendly briquettes and cook stoves. The company generates revenue by selling these products to households and small businesses in Uganda. By offering a sustainable alternative to traditional charcoal and firewood, BoW addresses the issues of deforestation and energy poverty, while also reducing respiratory illnesses caused by smoke from burning firewood indoors.
